Hello

Dr. Gerald Quirk M.D., PhD

Starting December 2024

My Story

Dr. Gerald Quirk, a Richmond native, is a graduate of Saint Christopher’s School and the University of Virginia. He has a Master of Science degree from the Medical College of Virginia with a thesis on the Genetic Basis of Alzheimer’s Disease.  He completed a PhD and MD from the VCU School of Medicine with a focus on human anatomy and physiology, with epilepsy research in the departments of neurology and neuroanatomy.  In 2011, after completing his Family Medicine residency, he worked as a hospitalist providing emergency room consultations and inpatient medical care.  During this time, he treated patients with a wide variety of medical conditions including heart attack, stroke, localized and systemic infections, and neurodegenerative conditions such as Parkinson’s and dementia. His most recent experiences include working in a certified stroke hospital and learning the most up to date information in the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of stroke. He is board certified in Family Medicine by the American Academy of Family Physicians and certified to provide advanced life support by the American Heart Association. In addition to his practice of medicine, he has 14 years of experience teaching in medical, dental and pharmacy schools, at the undergraduate and doctorate levels.

Dr. Quirk knows how debilitating and life altering some medical conditions can be. As a Whole Health Physician, he plans to focus on disease prevention. He knows people can live fuller more meaningful lives with proper preventive measures and individualized management of medical conditions. Dr. Quirk believes that when patients understand the basic science behind their medical conditions, and the impact of lifestyle modifications and medicine, it becomes easier to understand the importance of partnering together for disease prevention and management.

When not working, Dr. Quirk enjoys spending time with his family, collecting antiques, and restoring classic cars and motorcycles.  He also helps his parents, who live locally. His father is a decorated U.S. Army Ranger and his mother survived childhood growing up in Germany during World War II.
